L-Arginine supplementation benefits

L-Arginine is a non essential amino acid, meaning it may be consumed through diet but can be created in the body from other amino acids. Arginine is considered conditionally essential, as in times of illness and stress the body requires higher amounts of those aminos. In supplement form arginine may have a variety of uses, most stemming from it's conversion into nitric oxide.

Task of Arginine in the body

Arginine is responsible for 2 main functions within the body, building protein, and conversion to nitric oxide.

Arginine is one of the more common structural amino acids in many forms of protein, as such it's presence in the body is very important in the protein production process.

The ability to convert into nitric oxide is the reason arginine supplements are popular with athletes for improving athletic performance, as well as in combination with medications to enhance their effectiveness.

Athletic performance benefits are attributed to the ability of arginine to dilate or relax the blood vessels, allowing for better blood flow. This is also why arginine has shown to help people with slightly high blood pressure.
