Hay fever, commonly known as summer catarrh and medically termed, as seasonally/perennial Allergic Rhinitis is a manifestation of underlying endogenic allergy.
Sneezing, profuse watery nasal discharge and nasal obstructions, irritating redness and watering of eyes, dull headache and mild fever characterize this febrile catarrhal condition mimicking influenza.
In this condition, atopic (immediate) hypersensitivity develops to foreign particles/antigens in individuals who have an inherited lowered resistance or Endogenic allergy. The antigens concerned may be pollens from grasses, flowers weeds or trees; fungal spores; mites or animal dander; house dust; physical/chemical irritants; cold air and dry atmosphere. An initial exposure to the antigen causes release of IgE antibodies from the B-Lyphocytes, which adgere to the surface of mast cells and basophils in the nasal mucosa. The release of these substances causes vasodilation, increased permeability of the capillary walls, hypersection by glands and swelling of tissues of the nasal mucosa. These inflammatory changes in the nasal mucosa are manifested clinically as - runny nose, watery eyes, smarting of eyes and nose and other associated symptoms.
Keeping the patient away from the suspected allergen may have temporary benefit, but not for long, because while living normally in this world no individual can avoid - sun, dust, dry atmosphere, flowers, grasses etc.
Although the commonly used anti-allergic medicines do provide some relief from the symptoms of hay fever, they do have side effects such as drowsiness which can hinder one's daily routine. They also do not prevent or build up resistance to subsequent attacks of hay fever. Further, when taken continuously, the body stops responding to smaller doses and in order for the medicine to work, the dosage has to be increased with a concomitant increase in the side effects.

INDICATIONS:
